Randall swearing revenge against Sulley for beating him in the Scare Games in Monsters University, resulting in his purely corrupted villainy; also his last words in the prequel.
That's the last time I lose to you, Sullivan.
I am about to revolutionize the scaring industry. And when I do, even the great James P. Sullivan is gonna be working for me!
Randall trapping Mike and explaining his plan of his attempted future dignity.
Look at everybody's favorite scarer now, you STUPID, PATHETIC WASTE! You've been number one for too long, Sullivan! Now your time is UP! And don't worry! I'll take good care of the KID!
Randall's villainous breakdown as he prepares to kill Sulley.
Randall "Randy" Boggs is the main antagonist of Pixar's Monsters, Inc. franchise.
He is a purple, reptilian, chameleon-like monster who is an employee of Monsters, Inc. He is the archenemy of James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski (the latter of whom is also his former college roommate and best friend during their teenaged youth years at Monsters University). He swears for revenge upon lifetime resentment on them both in any way possible.
Wishing to "revolutionize" the scaring industry in his search to gain fame and fortune, along with becoming highly superior to Mike and Sulley in petty revenge over that minor incident in Monsters University, Randall secretly teams up with Henry J. Waternoose III to solve the city's current energy crisis, with Randall coming up with a torturous device to get as many screams as they need. Overall, Randall's overall goal is to usurp Sulley and Mike's glorious positions as the no. 1 famous employees of Monsters, Incorporated. This goal failed as Waternoose was arrested in the end, Monsters, Inc. transitioned into using laugh power, and he was sent into exile in the human world.
However, Randall escaped and started a similar conspiracy with Johnny Worthington III to get scream power back as the primary power source of Monstropolis, this time manufacturing an energy crisis to be caused by Monsters, Inc. This would give him another chance at being the number one scarer, and also grant him revenge on Mike and Sulley for ruining his chance as number one scarer of children before. This also failed, as Johnny revealed his plan to Tylor Tuskmon who would reveal this to Monsters, Inc., this causing them to reveal his plot to Monstropolis and taking steps to stop it from occurring, getting Johnny arrested as well and Randall to have to escape again to look for further opportunities for revenge.
Overall his goals and his main personal (but petty) favorite; completing his revenge against both Sulley and Mike upon lifetime resentment firstly at college since their adolescence throughly in any ways he successfully can as possible.

Description
Appearance
Randall is a purple chameleon-like monster with three-antennaed long crests with pink tips on top of his head, violet scales, green eyes, four arms and legs, a sky blue tail, and has the ability to completely blend in with his surroundings, making him invisible (as well as being able to cling to walls).
As younger, Randall's crests were shorter, and he sometimes wears purple glasses (which he later got rid of to improve his camouflage powers, leading him to constantly squint to try and see better).
In Monsters at Work, Randall is mostly unchanged as his same appearance but he now has a scar over his right eye due to being frantically hit with a shovel by that woman in the trailer, and a brighter skin color scheme.
Powers and Abilities
Camouflage: Randall has a unique ability to change the color of his body to blend into his surroundings, and even become practically invisible. Only his eyes and teeth remain visible when he uses his camouflage.
Strength: He is surprisingly strong for his slender appearance, as shown when he attacked Sulley and lifted him off the ground in an attempt to choke him to death with his tail.
Personality
Formerly and originally in Monsters University, Randall was formerly and originally a benevolent, shy, timid, nerdy, gentle, helpful, friendly, and hospitable teenage monster who would hang out with Mike as they were college roommates. However, Randall abandons Mike to join RΩR (Roar Omega Roar), thus making Mike befriend Sulley in order to join Oozma Kappa. He slowly corrupts as he turns on Mike by taking part in Johnny's mean prank to humiliate Oozma Kappa by having stuffed animals and paint fall down on them, thus putting an end of their friendship. Randall then purely corrupts when Sulley unintentionally embarrassed him at the Scare Games which serves as his biggest worst weakness that he is a shy nerd and serves him a comeuppance for his betrayal against Mike.
Currently and purely in Monsters, Inc., Randall is ruthless, cunning, manipulative, petty, hostile, calculating, sadistic, scary, heartless, vile, and overall evil in nature. He is also a cold-hearted, selfish, truculent, and argumentative jerk who absolutely doesn't care about everybody but only himself. Judging by his intentions to capture children for their screams (and possibly never return them back), he is probably willing to severely harm little children (or worse). He seriously have resentment both on Mike and Sulley even since their youth at college since the three of them were adolescents.
Randall was also shown to be murderous towards Sulley, as he once whacked him very hard with a scream canister during their fight in the secret compartment of the company while gloating that he had wanted to do that for a long time in petty revenge on Sulley beforehand; referencing about his embarrassment that became the origination of his villainy and this was back at the Scare Games since he, Sulley, and Mike were younger at college. He then tried to strangle Sulley to death by wrapping himself around his neck and would have succeeded had Mike not accidentally hit Randall with his remaining snow cone.
While Waternoose is Randall's boss, he is more compassionate and well-mannered than Randall and had more firm reasons for his actions as he was trying to save his company from bankruptcy and stop the energy crisis, while Randall was doing it purely for personal gain and enjoyment, and also for his hatred and grudge against Sullivan and Mike since college, showing he cannot get over a minor problem. Waternoose has a personal goal of making life perfect upon being the factory's chairman and also has environmental care for the monster realm gaining electricity power in exchange for his company to avoid bankruptcy while Randall has egotistical/selfish goals of being no.1 of the company to make himself worshipped upon both being the CEO himself and the no. 1 employee. He is also quite sour, shown when Waternoose told him "Sullivan was twice the scarer you'll ever be!", Randall has no concept of forgiveness and compassion, as stated by Sulley. Randall only cares about himself and winning, and doesn't care about anyone else, including Waternoose. In fact, it is indicated, when reminded by Waternoose that there cannot be any witnesses to their plan, Randall coldly states that there won't be while coldly glaring at Waternoose, thus hinting that he plans to betray and kill Waternoose once their plot is accomplished.
In Monsters at Work, Randall hasn't changed in the slightest, retaining his cruelty and ignominy, but he now renews his former friendship with Johnny Worthington III after the latter saved him from the swamp family, subsequently aiding him in a plot to bring Fear Co. up to power. He also has abandoned whatever thoughts he had of being famous and being the top scarer as his conspiracy with Waternoose has been exposed in failure. However he still retains his grudge against both Sulley and Mike ever since college when they were younger adolescents, banishing him, always beating him since Monsters, Inc. and at the Scare Games as public humiliation that became the origination of his corruptible villainy. Randall then shows his full treacherous nature, shamelessly sabotaging and incriminating while hurting anyone who gets in his way, even the son of his former boss. He also retains his pleasure in terrifying children, as much as he has no qualms about making fun of his former comrade, Chet, though this drove an angry Chet to defeat him in return.
Other media
Monsters, Inc. Scream Team
Randall appears as a recurring boss in Monsters, Inc. Scream Team (also known as Monsters, Inc. Scare Island), which takes place before the main narrative in the first film Monsters, Inc. Randall makes several attempts to sabotage the training simulations carried out by Sulley and Mike. He appears in the City Park arena, in which he tries to knock the pair off a platform by rolling down barrels. During racing missions which involve going down a slide, Randall challenges them to a race but gets beaten at every point. He attempts to cheat on the third and last race by starting before the countdown can finish, but is still defeated. He continues to vow to defeat the pair one day.
Disney Infinity
Randall is included as a playable character in Disney Infinity and its subsequent 2.0 and 3.0 editions, playable in the Monsters University playset and the Toy Box mode of all games.
Monsters, Inc.: Laugh Factory
Taking place in the four-part mini-series, Randall appears as one of the main three antagonists along with Waternoose and Sid Phillips. Here, Sid learns of the door system and begins to work with the two monsters so he could patent the technology in the human world while Boggs and Waternoose would get revenge on Mike and Sulley. However, they were caught when Boo saw Sid using her door to steal her toys and followed him, alerting the investigating CDA agents looking for the escaped Waternoose. After the trio kidnapped Mike and Sulley, Celia would grab hold of Boo, where the two were chased by the others. Celia and Boo would lead them on a chase through the human world long enough for the CDA to rally back at Monsters, Inc. Sid is sent back to the human world, while Boggs and Waternoose are arrested again.
Kingdom Hearts III
Randall Boggs makes an appearance in Kingdom Hearts III. He is voiced by Yutaka Aoyama in the Japanese version and by J.P. Manoux in the English version.
After being banished by Mike and Sulley like in the film, Randall meets Vanitas and the pair form an alliance. Vanitas fixes the door which Randall uses to return to Monsters, Inc. with ambition to take over Monsters, Inc. and a desire for revenge on his old enemies. Determined to prove that laughter is unsustainable to power Monstropolis, he uses the Unversed as a means for acquiring negative emotional energy and manages to weaponize the machinery in the facility.
He then quietly monitors the heroes and follows them into the Door Vault. There he tricks them before revealing himself as the one who bought the Unversed to Monsters, Inc., and throughout their efforts to stop him and the Unversed, he mocks them over the intercom. Things soon start to go bad for him when one of the weaponized machines becomes unresponsive. But with help from Vanitas, he then unleashes the Unversed machine the Lump of Horror onto the heroes after Mike's ignorance gets the better of them.
But despite this, the heroes defeat the Lump of Horror, much to Randall's dismay. Sulley eventually captures Randall and subdues him before sending him back through the very same door he was banished through the first time, with Randall vowing to come back somehow and even the score. Sora then uses his Keyblade to lock the door for good and the door then gets destroyed again.

Monsters at Work
Tylor: [gasps] Randall?
Johnny: Boggs.
Randall: Hahaha! Mission accomplished, boss.Randall upon saying that his plan is complete to Johnny.
Randall: Let me tell you a story. Me and Johnny go way back to MU. We were practically joined at the hip... besties.
Cleetus' Mom: [in flashback] Cleetus, what's that?!
Cleetus: [in flashback] What in tarnation?! [Johnny, in the flashback, roars at them, and they scream]
Randall: He saved me from those swamp people, so I owed him one. You see, Fear Co. had a problem, scream power was kaput, and Johnny needed to protect his family legacy. So, we cooked up a brilliant scheme. We pretended to invent a scream amplifier that would save the scaring industry. [Randall, in the flashback, removes his hard hat, and chuckles evilly] Meanwhile, I use my very particular set of skills to sneak into Monsters, Inc. in the dead of night, and nab the MIFTers' key to their holding pen, steal those dummies' laugh energy, and then pass it off as our own. [pulls a lever] I even rewired the empty canisters, so that no one noticed the missing laugh energy. Those clowns didn't have any idea what was going on, ha! Then I tipped off the clueless media about the leaky canisters.
Jill: Who is this? Hello? Hello?
Randall: Suddenly, Monsters, Inc. couldn't meet the energy needs of the city, and caused a catastrophic blackout.
Monstropolis Citizen: Curse you, laugh power!
Randall: And along the way, I had some fun sticking it to that one-eyed cretin Wazowski. [sneaks into the office, then spray paints a wall] But I wanted nothing more than to wipe that smug grin off Sullivan's stupid blue face! And we found some poor schmuck close to him to help us out.Randall revealing how he returned to Monstropolis thanks to Johnny Worthington and then spent a long time ruining Monsters, Inc.'s reputation and slowly getting revenge on Mike and Sulley.
Speaking of help, you know who didn't get any? Me. Your phony scream amplifier is activated, and so is my tennis elbow so thanks for that.Randall complaining about never getting a thanks to his credit for assisting Johnny in their scheme.

Trivia
- Originally, Randall's names were Ned and Switt. He was named Ned in the early treatment and Switt in the original opening.
- The crest on Randall's head may have been inspired by the possible wings of Longisquama, an extinct lizard from the Triassic period.
- Randall is the second Pixar villain to be physically fought, the first being Stinky Pete.
- Randall is also the first Pixar villain to appear in a Kingdom Hearts game albeit not fought as a boss; although the Toy Box world based on Toy Story is featured, none of its villains are and are instead replaced with Young Xehanort.
- For some reason, Randall is the only scarer in the first film that is referred by his first name on the scarers' leaderboard rather than by his last name "Boggs." This implies that at some point during the film's development, Randall was actually going to be his last name rather than his first name.
- In the Monsters, Inc. comic book "Laugh Factory", Randall has found his way back into the monster world, and both he and Waternoose plot revenge on Mike and Sulley with the help of Sid Phillips, the main antagonist of Pixar's first film, Toy Story.
- Coincidentally, one of the wallpapers Randall blends in with in Monsters, Inc. is Andy Davis' wallpaper in the first Toy Story film.
- At one point, Randall threatens to put Fungus through the door shredder if he didn't get him another door within five seconds. This is a reference to Carl Showalter, Steve Buscemi's character from Fargo, who was killed by being shredded in a woodchipper.
- Randall can be known to be 28 years old in Monsters, Inc., as he was 18 in Monsters University, exactly alongside with both Sulley and Mike as well. This may be true considering Monsters, Inc. take place ten years later.
- Randall uses glasses in Monsters University, while in Monsters, Inc. he does not. This is because his glasses do not turn invisible like him, so he discards them. This also explains why Randall squints in Monsters, Inc. since he does not see well without glasses, which could mean he is nearsighted.
- Also, despite appearing in the Monsters University promotional images with his glasses, Randall only wears them shortly once in the movie.
- Randall serves as a dark reflection to the following characters:
- Sulley: Both were top scarers at Monsters, Inc. But while Sulley cared about making sure Monstropolis and the monster world had enough world energy, Randall was most concerned about being at the top and thus receiving Sulley's glorious life. Sulley also felt ashamed about the harm that children went through by being scared, while Randall had no problems harming children and was even willing to kidnap them to take their screams by force. Randall serves as an example of what Sulley would've become if he hadn't met Boo, was more concerned about fame, and didn't realized the harm children were experiencing. Randall could also represent what Sulley would've become if he hadn't felt remorse for the psychological effects he saw within Boo when he accidentally scared her and continued to hold onto his pride of being the top scarer subsequently. He could also symbolize what Sulley would've become if he allowed his arrogance from Monsters University to consume him. Thus, he wouldn't be able to learn about the true value of friendship if he never Mike and their future won't turn out fortunate if they aren't best friends. Sulley's life wouldn't have been good if he hadn't met Boo and Mike. They both hold opposite attitudes since MU and purely turns the other way around afterwards: Sulley being arrogant and immature but became humble and heroically wholesome while Randall is affable and nerdy but turned villainous and resentful. Luckily, Sulley redeemed himself by becoming friends with Mike, and Randall falls to evil as his good nerdy self became a thing of the past when Sulley publicly humiliated him at the Scare Games that serves his biggest weakness also by that problem because he is a shy nerd. They were both opposite character roles of each other since Monsters University: their original and future pure personalities, friends with Mike, and becoming a team member of Roar Omega Roar.
- Mike: Both were nerdy roommate monsters who were not physically strong that majored in scaring. Randall had modesty and no faith in his abilities while Mike was overconfident. Randall is an example what Mike would've become about after being a nerdy student since college and what his life would've been, despite having a score at the Scare Games which instead serves him a fortunate chance to work at Monsters, Inc. They both also end up in same endings: Despite Mike getting the high score in the final round of the Scare Games, he was soon expelled with Sulley, but fortunately climbed the ranks to become a scare assistant at Monsters, Inc. instead, while Randall got the worst score in the final round, but graduated and became a scarer. However, sooner in the future, Mike became a jokester and the company's co-CEO with Sulley, while Randall became an infamous wanted criminal firstly after his conspiracy is foiled and even after escaping custody.
- Tylor Tuskmon: Both were given the opportunity to become a prominent position in the energy industry after working there way up through college, only to find themselves jealous that there coworkers, a college dropout (Tylor to Val, and Randall to Sulley) managed to get that job through sheer luck and talent leaving them both jealous. Tylor's jealousy did have some understandable concerns, but his went away, and he decided to congratulate Val. Randall's jealousy, however, never went away, and he went on to steal laugh power for Johnny. Tylor also felt horrified that he scared his human friend, Ben, realizing how bad scaring kids is. Randall, on the other hand, has no remorse scaring kids. If Tylor let his scarer ego consume him and rejected his jokester ego, he would've ended up like Randall.
- Randall Boggs is currently the only Monsters Inc. main antagonist to not have a the tribar “lll” symbol in his full name:
- Henry J. Waternoose III and Johnny Worthington III both have the lll symbol in their full name preceded by their last names. Consistently, Both Henry J. Waternoose III and Johnny Worthington lll both have the J middle name dot. Plus, both of them consider foils.
- Randall's physical appearance is quite interesting, as it fits with him being a green-eyed monster, especially given how extremely jealous he was to Sulley for outbeating him as the Top Scarer.
