Rawlins (Suspect Behavior)

Rawlins (first name unknown) is the hidden main antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior finale "Death by a Thousand Cuts". Rawlins is a prison guard who organizes a series of murders by civilians whose relatives Rawlins kidnap, with the assistance of his accomplice and suggestible colleague Richard Stahl.

He's portrayed by Nick Chinlund, who also portrayed Matthew Brodus in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Biography

Little is revealed about Rawlins' history. He was the direct superior of Stahl and protected him on the grounds of the correctional facility they worked at, but as Stahl was a submissive man, Rawlins build up influence over Stahl for his planned crimes. Rawlins wanted a killing spree to instigate public panic, but he believed he'd have more power if he made innocent people commit the murders. He ordered Stahl to abduct loved ones of _targeted civilians at gunpoint, place calls to their families, and tell whoever they picked to be the killers the allotted time frame and location they demanded the murders take place, the two of them threatening to kill whoever was held hostage. They were to shoot a random person at the scene, then leave the weapons on the ground to be found. Three such kidnappings and murders happened in that cycle, but it all changed when Martin Malek was picked after his pregnant wife Carolyn was held captive. The FBI's Red Cell Team picked up on the case and tracked Martin down, but as time was running to kill someone, Martin shot himself dead to save Carolyn, which was successful. Even though Stahl released Carolyn, Rawlins was furious and wanted to _target the team, so when Agents Beth Griffith and Jonathan "Prophet" Simms interview one of his colleagues, Martinez, Rawlins kills Martinez, knocks out Prophet, and takes Griffith as a hostage. Stahl calls Unit Chief Sam Cooper and orders his meeting of Stahl in a public square, where he himself is to be killed by Cooper to save Griffith, who Rawlins holds at gunpoint. The episode ends on three simultaneous instances: Cooper tries to delay the demand by appealing to Stalh, Rawlins prepares to shoot Griffith, and the agents and local police prepare to arrest him. A gunshot goes off before the "To be continued..." graphic shows, so the fates of everyone involved are left unknown due to no follow-up episode.
