SCP-1548's last transmission in "Video Killed The Radio Star".I don't want to go.

SCP-1548-EX, also known as the Hateful Star, is a minor antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. It is a sentient star-like entity devoting a strong hatred for all lifeforms, currently moving towards the Solar System to destroy the Earth. It was classified as Keter by the Foundation, but it was later reclassified as Explained.

Biography

SCP-1548 was discovered at the Yerkes' Observatory in Chicago in 1949, located 24 light-years away from Earth. While at first presumed to be a star, further investigation discovered that it periodic releases bursts of radiation. From these radiation bursts could waves be picked up by radio. The radio waves could be interpreted as Morse code messages. When translated, SCP-1548 was revealed to be sentient, describing sadistic messages involving the death and destruction of the human race.

Over the course of several years, SCP-1548 was monitored to be accelerating at a fast pace towards the Earth, continuously transmitting hostile messages. The SCP Foundation initially labeled SCP-1548 as a Euclid classification, but later classified it as Keter when the transmitted messages took a more erudite turn. From these new messages did the Foundation learn that SCP-1548 was omniscient, aware of humanity observing it. It knows almost everything about humanity, the Foundation, and can even predict the future.

All space observatories are prohibited from observing SCP-1548 to prevent provoking it further. Should an observation of SCP-1548 take place, all observations will be temporarily placed under the control of the Foundation. The Foundation is currently working on methods of neutralizing SCP-1548 before it destroys the Earth. When the research will conclude or the predicted deadline of collision with SCP-1548 will initiate are kept classified by the Foundation.

However, it was later discovered that the star wasn't actually sentient and the transmissions it released were just randomized gibberish that so happened to form threatening sentences, and as a result it was reclassified as Explained. As SCP-1548 kept getting closer to Earth its reversing direction caused the star to slowly collapse. As it slowly died out it released one last transmission to the Foundation stating that it doesn't want to die before disappearing completely.

Trivia

  • SCP-1548-EX was likely based on the actual radio stars.
  • This page is about SCP-1548-EX, and it is not related with the current SCP-1548. It is also not to be confused with SCP-4548 which is also known as "Hateful Star".
  • In "Heart and Sol", it is explained that the reason why SCP-001 transformed humanity into amorphous monsters was because so they could survive the attack of the Hateful Star. It is unknown if this Hateful Star refers to 1548-EX.
  • The original SCP-1548 was eventually deleted from the SCP Wiki due to a disagreement between the author Von Pincier and site staff, causing the author to rewrite it as RPC-548 on RPC Authority Wiki. Another author would rewrite the concept as SCP-1548-EX.
    • The original version of SCP-1548 was referenced in SCP-███ (SCP-5356) as a corpse being preserved by the Department of Abnormalities.
