The Archivists

"Oh, let's play a game!", they said. "Let's play hide and seek! You go down there and see if the Titans wanna play!" So I played, and it was great! The baby Titans were the cutest, just like King! And they were all so welcoming! But the Archivists were scared of their power. So one by one, they disappeared, until there was one Titan left. And he thought I was the bad guy!The Collector ranting about what the Archivists did to him.

The Archivists aren't here, they couldn't have taken her!The Collector following Luz Noceda's death.

The Archivists are four of the five overarching antagonists (alongside The Grand Huntsman) in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. They are a specific set of Collectors and the older siblings of the Collector who were following their kind's rule of "preserving" life to make sure it won't die out. They send out their brother to meet the Titans, before becoming scared of their power and deciding to wipe them out, thus indirectly leading to the Collector's imprisonment within the In-Between Realm, kickstarting the events of the entire series.

Appearances

According to their brother, the Archivists were all massive Collectors who wore blue robes and caps and had humanoid faces. All of them had a unique tassel on their caps; the first was cyan and crescent moon-shaped, the second was yellow and star-shaped, the third was orange and ringed planet-shaped and the fourth was red and star-shaped. Due to their minimalist depictions, it's unknown what they looked like physically and if they had anything else that set them apart from each other.

History

The Archivists had a younger brother known simply as "the Collector" who, compared to them, didn't like collecting lifeforms or killing them, instead preferring to play with them and have fun. The Archivists eventually decided to use their brother to their advantage, sending him out to meet a species known as the Titans, whom the Collector proceeded to befriend and play with. Eventually, learning of the powers Titans hold, the Archivists became scared and decided to wipe them all out before they could do it to them. It's known that, during the war, there was also a specific Collector known as the Grand Huntsman. It's unknown if they were one of the Archivists or an independent Collector, but they were joined by a cult of witches known as the Titan Trappers, who helped in their quest to kill Titans.

After a long war, the Archivists eventually managed to kill all the Titans except one. The remaining Titan, angered at the deaths of his brethren, mistakenly blamed the Collector for this and, not wanting him to hurt his still-unborn son, sealed him inside the In-Between Realm before dying too. It's unknown if the Archivists were aware of this or not, but if they were, then they chose not to save their brother and left him to rot for various millions of years.

It's unknown what happened to the Archivists following the extinction of the Titans. It's been implied that they all perished during the war, but nothing was confirmed.

Trivia

  • While the entire species of Collectors was introduced in "For the Future", this specific set of Collectors wasn't known to exist until the series finale, "Watching and Dreaming".
  • It's implied the Archivists can make people disappear into nothingness. When Luz Noceda dies and then disappears into motes of light, the Collector says "the Archivists aren't here, they couldn't have taken her!".
  • It's implied they sent out the Collector as a way to get him killed, or at the very least out of their way.
    • It's also possible that they intended for their youngest sibling to take the blame for their actions.
  • The Archivists have numerous parallels to Emperor Belos. Both are horrible siblings (Belos killing Caleb, the Archivists trying to get rid of the Collector) who followed their siblings into the Demon Realm, before trying to wipe out all life on it due to being scared of its citizens, despite claiming it's for the good (Belos thinking he's saving humanity from evil, the Archivists thinking they're just doing what's needed to continue preserving life). The main difference is that the Archivists were the ones who sent the Collector into the Demon Realm, succeeded in their genocide, didn't care about their brother at all and presumably weren't punished, even if that's not confirmed. By comparison, Belos didn't want Caleb to be in the Demon Realm, failed in his witch genocide, had some care for his brother even if was twisted and obsessive, and died for his crimes.
