He was a loyal supporter of Johnson, who may have realized that Johnson would not have had that same loyalty to him or others who were dedicated to "the cause". (of the great society). I would recommend this book as a way to round out a general knowledge of Johnson...an overview. My favorite part of the book was the description of Johnson campaigning in the South by train.
