Grand challenges in mental health are identified

An international group of more than 400 mental health experts have identified 25 challenges which, if successfully tackled, promise to improve the lives of people with mental, neurological, and substance-use disorders.

The Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health Initiative was organised by the US National Institutes of Health and the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases. Their group of experts, who came from more than 60 countries and included clinicians, researchers, and programme organisers, used successive rounds of assessment and ranking to reduce an initial list of 1500 possible challenges to just 25.
