It has been such an exciting year with the Canadian Medical Association.

Every year, the Canadian Medical Association gives a voice to physicians on national health issues – and we’re making real progress on health system reform.

In 2024, we reached over 12,000 physicians and other individuals, we spoke at over 50 events, gave over 280 media interviews, and met with over 140 Parliamentarians to drive health care change.

This year, we apologized for past and ongoing harms to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in the health system, and began a new path forward for ReconciliACTION, lending support to Indigenous Peoples as they lead the way.

We launched ‘Healthcare for Real’ to promote health system literacy and empower Canadians with trusted, evidence-based information about the health system.

We updated our policy on public and private health care, with recommendations for decision makers on how to safeguard the public system and ensure access for all Canadians.

There’s so much I’m proud of that we achieved in 2024: things like working on reducing physician administrative burden, improving mobility of physicians across all provinces and territories, or reframing the climate crisis as a health crisis.

Heading into 2025 we remain committed to fixing the health system, helping Canadians in need of a family doctor, keeping ERs open, and cutting down on long wait times for care. We’ll continue to advance reconciliACTION, update our Code of Ethics, make sure access to health care is on the political agenda and bring together medical professionals and patients to map out our advocacy work at the Health Summit in March.
