Biography

Alonzo Judson Abbey was born in Ulster County, New York. He became a music teacher, holding singing classes in several states, including New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He compiled song tunes, published several volumes of music, and edited music. His work was often edited by George Frederick Root. He died in Chester, New Jersey. His brother, Horatio Gates Abbey, also wrote song lyrics. His published compositions include a number of hymns, as well as a few piano pieces and part songs.
