Biography
An Italian musician of the papal chapel predating Costanzo Festa, whose works have been almost entirely lost. One Salve Regina is attributed to him, the abbreviation "N. fl." in Vatican manuscript Capp.Sist. 42 being interpreted as Nicolaus Florentinus. Both Medici popes thought highly of him and Leo X created the office of prior of the papal chapel especially for him, which was abolished after Niccolo's death. In 1527, fleeing the sack of Rome for Cremona, he wrote to Clement VII that he had since written three Masses, three Magnificats and five Motets, more than in the previous twenty years.
