Softly fall the snowflakes,
Fleecy pure and fair,
Drifting slowly downward
Thro’ the chilly air;
In their snowy whiteness,
Shrouding all the earth,
Bringing with their brightness,
Hours of joy and mirth.

While the flakes are falling,
Happy hearts beat fast,
Planning Winter pleasures,
While the snow shall last.

Tinkle of the sleigh-bells,
Chiming soft and clear,
O’er the gleaming snowflakes,
Breaks upon the ear;
Sounds of happy laughter,
Follow in their train,
Merry hearts are beating,
To their glad refrain.

Happy hearts are bounding,
Happy faces glow,
As they hasten homeward,
O’er the gleaming snow;
Tho’ the earth is shrouded
In its mantle white,
Winter days are happy
Filled with joy and light.
