Introduction

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) represents a significant global health challenge, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The increasing prevalence of DM, alongside its associated complications, has prompted researchers and healthcare professionals to explore a variety of management strategies beyond conventional pharmacotherapy. Among these strategies, the use of natural products as complementary applications has garnered considerable interest. Natural products, derived from plants, herbs (as called phytochemicals) and from other biological sources, have been utilized for centuries in traditional medicine systems and are now being investigated for their potential therapeutic benefits in managing diabetes. This thematic issue aims to present and highlight the potential the advances comprehensive overview of the current state of research regarding the association between DM and the application of natural products. By examining recent studies and clinical trials, we will highlight the efficacy, mechanisms of action, and safety profiles of various natural products in the context of diabetes management. Furthermore, this issue seeks to identify gaps in the existing literature and propose directions for future research, ultimately contributing to the development of integrative approaches that enhance diabetes care and improve patient outcomes. The potential advanced techniques and protocols in these compounds administrations that could explain the functional mechanisms during the biological processes are highly recommended in the current thematic issue.
