First chapter is a readable introduction to cellular biology for non-specialists. I remember seeing that first chapter available somewhere online.

Cell biology can be very tricky and this appears to be a great book to read in order to get some more understanding outside of the textbook

paradoxically, cell dynamics are more complex than organism dynamics. this is a really good introduction to the not-so-rigid building blocks of life.
