This 4th book in the Secret Bookcase Mystery series is another delightful installment, one I feel is the best of the four books so far.
It has a holiday theme, involving a murder at a gingerbread house contest which was held at the bookstore. Lots of baking and social media influencing talk, which was interesting.
As usual, Annie gets involved in solving the murder, along with help from the truly outstanding supporting cast of characters, including Liam, Pri, Hal, and Fletcher.
A highly recommended cozy mystery!!

OMG……Ellie Alexander the QUEEN of the Cozy Mystery has a new book and new cozy mystery series.
The series is “A Secret Bookcase Mystery” set in the charming Northern California town of Redwood Grove. Now being that I am Northern California girl I was even more excited for this book. I also live in a small town and since there are so many adorable towns in Northern California, I could just imagine it all as I read the book.
Annie Murray has been managing the Secret Bookcase Bookstore for over eight years. She loves her job but things in the small town are running a bit slow over this past year. Annie still has a lot of guilt in her heart as her best friend Scarlet was murdered 10 years ago. The two of them were working on solving a murder mystery but Annie dropped it after Scarlett’s death. Annie had dreamed of opening her own detective agency all those years ago but after Scarlett, she put her dreams on hold.
The owner of the bookstore is Hal who is adorable and Annie also has a coworker named Fletcher. Since things have been slow, Annie comes up with the idea to have the town host a book themed Mystery Festival. Can you think Ellie Alexander and her Mystery Festival held each year in Ashland, Oregon? Annie thought doing this would bring an influx of revenue and people into the town. Many of the visitors that come for the mystery fest were former classmates of hers. This song fits him with how as he thinks he is related to Agatha Christie and he is very much at steps with Sherlock Holmes. Annie gets everyone excited with this mystery festival and all the things that go with it. As th festival goes on one of the attendees is killed and left in the bookshop for Annie to find. This murder gets Annie’s brain going and she starts to wonder if the two deaths are related. Is a grump in town and doesn’t think the mystery fest will work but he does come around eventually him and Annie start to get to know each other. . This book was fantastic… (more)

I've read the first three books in the Secret Bookcase series in fairly rapid succession and I have absolutely fallen in love with this series.
Annie works at the bookstore and, as a criminology major in college and former student of Dr. Caldwell, the lead investigator in the town, Annie helps out in solving the mysteries. Lots of great recurring characters, including Annie's best friend Pri, along with Liam and Penny.
Here, once again, there's murder at a planned event, this time a fundraiser to help restore the Wentworth Farmhouse, which Penny just bought.
A fun but clever cozy mystery series.
Highly recommended!!

Former criminology student/bookseller Annie Murray is having a sales event involving a famed matchmaker. But things go rather spectacularly wrong and trying to untangle the lies/liars from simple bystanders is a monumental task complicated by events from the past. Good read.
