Short biography
This is a pen name used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate (founded by author Edward Stratemeyer). He would either buy rights to books and publish them under a pseudonym or (more often) create a series and write outlines and then hire a ghostwriter to write the work. He would then edit and promote the work. The ghostwriter was paid a flat fee and Stratemeyer owned the rights and took the risk.

This must have been one of the first books for children about the wonders of radio.

I've been interested in pulps since a college course in childrens lit and my own reading as a child of Tom Swift, having never come across the Radio boys i wanted to give it a shot.

The series touts it's itself as the latest and most up to date information about radio, that may have been true in 1922 but of course things have changed a lot in the last ninety five years. The radio boys might be the first geeks, taking time to not only make their own radios but going so far as actually constructing the components. The book falls down on the simplified plot and the cloying goodness of the boys, I'm sure Twain would have railed on the author if he'd read it.

The 4 stories in this book were copyrighted in 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1910 and are about 260 pages each. Each of the stories deals with various jobs within a railroad company as Ralph begins at the bottom and works his way through the ranks and ends up as an engineer running a train, which was probably a pretty glamorous job back when these stories were written..

Simply dreadful. No imagination. Flat characters. Flat dialogue. I can't imagine a single pre-adolescent boy (even a hundred years ago) sitting through this dreck! It barely had a plot and was terribly boring.
