What do bird's songs mean? How does an owl catch its prey in the dark? "Bird" takes you soaring through the sky and around the world in an exciting journey from the bird's distant dinosaur past to its present astonishing variety. Take an up-close look at the staggering range of sizes, shapes, and habitats of these feathered creatures, and experience the miracle of flight.

Absolutely glorious. If I was a kid and owned it, it would be a treasure that would give me comfort with every gorgeous photograph. To learn that so many wonderful creatures share this world with us is to learn to appreciate one's own life, too.

I particularly appreciate the Scale key for each spread. It really is enlightening to learn, for example, not only how many different kinds of dolphins and porpoises there are, but how they vary in size so much.

Organization is fine. Information is concise... because it needs to be, in order to fit in one volume. Kids can certainly look up more information on the critters that appeal to them.

Great guide and visuals to Earth's fascinating creatures. Doesn't chronicle every single specimen ever known- but this encyclopedia can serve as good reference material- be it a quick lookup or to study. The physical book could easily double as a ship's anchor because it so massive and heavy.
