Tamsin Calidas

3.5 stars - this book is hard to review. I do think it’s a well written book and is an interesting memoir. But at certain times I found it hard to empathise with Calidas. My initial feeling towards her was that she was very naive about moving to a remote island. Of course locals would resent an outsider. Has she ever heard of a movie called ‘The Field’?!?

I can imagine she did encounter misogyny etc in the community. And the breakdown of her marriage was a great hardship for her.

I think I just found some of the self reflection/discovery by her to be shallow and lacking. But it’s hard to judge that as a reader and outsider.… (more)
