- Short biography
- St. John de Crèvecoeur was born a French aristocrat. He served in the French army in Canada, and then emigrated to the USA, where he partly anglicized his name. He became famous by writing works aimed at Europeans that celebrated life in America and the opportunities available. He's the namesake of the town of St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
