This is a useful how-to-draw book for children in elementary school, probably best for grades 3 to 8. It's a little difficult for our son in grade two, and he needs some parental help and encouragement. The robots are a good theme for aspiring young artists since they can be made with plenty of straight lines and simple curves. Basic instructions at the start show how artists need the right tools, like a good pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, permanent fine point black marker, and the book includes a few sheets of tracing paper. The artist, Billy Davis, has created 14 amusing robots with names like "Vacumatic" for an insect-like vacuuming machine, and "Sparky 3000" for a fire-fighting android, and "Scoobubba" for a scuba diver's personal assistant. Children are encouraged to adapt the robots, add extra features and colourful backgrounds, and combine different ideas to create their own brilliant robotic inventions. Not quite as much fun as Tap the Tamborine (it doesn't make as much noise), but still fun for my 1-year-old.
