1313. Pelagius and the Fifth Crusade, by Joseph P. Donovan (18 Jan 1975) This is a little book loaded with footnotes which I read rather inattentively. Pelagius became a cardinal about 1206 and in 1213 became Cardinal Bishop of Albano. The book is heavy with factual statements supported by authorities, but the figure of Pelagius never came alive. He died Jan. 30, 1230, at Monte Cassino. Salvador Mranda, on his web site, says as to him: "GALVÃO, O.S.B., Paio (ca. 1165-1230) Birth. Ca. 1165, Guimaraes, small city near Braga, Portugal (1). Son of Pedro Galvâo and Maria Pires. He is also listed as Pelagio Albano, Pelagio Albanense, Pelagius Albanensis and Pelayo Gaytan. His first name is also listed as Pelagio; and his last name Gaitán, Galvani, Galvano, Galván and Galvá"… (more)
