Research for Pioneer Certificate program was compiled in this book, reflecting three certification categories: Pioneer, Early Settlers and Early Families. The Table of Contents includes names of candidates for certificates. The vital statistics are given for each person, sometimes including additional family information. Beyond the text of the book, the Elgin Area Historical Society maintains files for each application received. These may include census, family bible, church and school records, newspaper clippings, personal stories, correspondence, photos, and birth, marriage, death certificates.
