Your typical fantasy quest adventure. This was an enjoyable fast read although it lacked depth. The change in point of views while keeping the action moving forwards also limited the connection forged with any of the characters. The plot is your typical fantasy quest adventure - rebellion to overthrow the empire and it's executed well. Shel is a strong and endearing lead and the rest of the characters are likable - if not slightly flat. It's odd these days to find a standalone and rather refreshing change to read a complete story. A pleasant read which kept me interested. I am not a gaming person but the book was well-written and kept me intrigued. I liked how the characters grew. The way the VR world changed and the AI developed it's own intelligence was a bit nerve wracking as an example of what can happen

While possessing most of the attributes of a litrpg, one of my favorite mechanics is left out. Leveling up and choosing the upgrade path. Instead the story is bogged down with a real life story about the main character’s mother getting remarried. It could have been a really great book I’m just sorry that it wasn’t. The best thing about it was the npc’s developing free will and wishing to escape the game world. I love stories about sentient A.I. This just felt like a missed opportunity.… (more)

Meh. Another litRPG novel that started out strong but faded rather quickly. Good to pick up as a freebie, but not worth paying for.
