"Secrets are just gossip you haven't been drunk enough to spill yet."

An intriguing story about family and secrets. Cat was young when a young woman went missing in her home town. And all she knows is...her died lied. He lied about knowing her, about talking to her and about whether the young missing woman was in her dad's car. Cat knows he's lying...and she's held his secrets into adulthood.

Now she's a police officer. Have these previous parts of her life molder her decision? Cat doesn't really want to think about it. But when pieces of the past - and this missing woman - come back to haunt Cat, she has to find out how much her father lied. And she knows, hold him accountable if he did what she always suspected he had.

This was a great mystery and one that had interesting twists and turns and ugly truths revealed. But there were times I was frustrated by Cat - I felt like there were very obvious turns that Cat seemed to struggle to keep up with. All in all, however, I enjoyed the book and I'll definitely look to keep reading the series.

Don’t know if it’s the book’s fault. Just not the right book at the right time. And pretty much hated everyone.

This is an ok book set in London.
A young woman's body turns up in central London.
Catrina Kinsella is a serving Police officer in the Met, she has a few problems of her own but she recognises this dead woman its Maryann Doyle who went missing from Ireland 20 years ago. Kinsella was over visiting family at the time.
She has always secretly suspected her own Father of killiing Maryann.
Lots of back and forth and red herrings later.
Turns out Maryann came to London she was pregnant sold her Baby and got into the ilegal surrogate business with another lady. They were then controlled by Patrick Mackie and his daughter Gina.
Mackie is an old school gangster now dying of cancer.
The twist is Gina's son help kill Maryann when she came looking for her child years later. Gina had adoopted her son without Maryann knowing. OK book till we got to the crime and I thought it was very far fetched.

This was an interesting book. I think it falls somewhere between police procedural and dysfunctional family drama. Pretty sure you would need to like both to enjoy this book. Just as a matter of interest, a lot of the vocabulary is different than we use in the US. I still wonder what bean and cheese toasties are. I keep forgetting to look that up. :)
