We listened to about a half-hour of this. It felt much longer. My wife & I are both fans of Gaffigan’s stand-up, but this is not that. It’s like all the worst parts of his stand up, with none of the bits that actually make it work—timing, comedic structure, snarky asides, etc. It’s just a few lame jokes, strung together by even lamer setups. Let me be clear: I listened to a half-hour of this, and literally did not laugh once. Did not even chuckle. He normally has me gasping for air, and I hope this hasn’t ruined his comedy for me. 3.5 because Jim Gaffigan has quite the knack for narration.

3 Stars

The best comedians can lend a sense of camaraderie, relating to the audience with funny anecdotes of shared experiences, commiserating in mutual exasperation and frustration.

I wouldn’t personally know, but Gaffigan surely excels here in talking about all things parenting and reveling in its exhausting rewarding glory.

This 2014 book has some problematic references to indigenous people and a very dated reference to the dieting success of Subway spokesman Jared Fogle before, y'know, all the child porn and pedophilia.

After listening to the audiobook, I skimmed through the paper edition, but the main difference was the inclusion of many cute but unnecessary pictures of Gaffigan's wife and children.… (more)
