I don't know what the author's intent was for this book. It was silly and frankly seemed mean-spirited. I think it was meant to be a farce. But it wasn't funny enough. The author herself was a bellydancer and her descriptions of the dance make it seem silly. The feminism in the book is heavy handed. All the men except one at the end are all horrible people or in the case of the transvestite just shown as weird.
Hippies are put down. It seems that everyone is put down. In putting down everyone, I don't know what the author's point is. The main character who discovers bellydancing after a divorce and suicide attempt seems laughable too as she tries to turn everyone on to the great earth mother.
As a bellydyancer myself, I expected so much more from this book. I cannot recommend this to anyone. It's bad on so many levels.… (more)
