A most interesting take on a world where vampires and humans live together in an uneasy cohabitation. Kidan is ruthless, born of a harsh life, being lied to, and having her sister vanish without a trace. It leads to her killing someone she thought was utterly trustworthy in order to get a clue as to where June had been taken. That leads her to Uxlay University and the discovery that she not only is heiress to one of the ruling houses on campus, but that the house comes with a very dangerous vampire.
Once they meet, the tension between them moves like sine waves and is mixed with attraction, erotica, and a reluctant alliance to get the about both her sister and who can be trusted. Hints of more to come at the end have me eager to see if a sequel is in the works.… (more)

This is a YA book but deals with some heavy and dark themes. There were times where I forgot it was YA and then got frustrated when the MC had a temper tantrum or made stupid impulsive decisions and I had to remind myself that she was only 19 and so it made sense. I did think about stopping during one of the temper tantrums early on but I stuck it out. I think the book got better as it went along and I enjoyed it overall and will continue the series.

I also enjoyed the narrator. Perhaps I would have been more likely to remember it was a YA book if the narrator had younger sounding voice but overall I think she did a great job.… (more)
