The text is only ok (forced rhyme and rhythm) but the kids found it silly and goofy enough that it worked anyway. Mixed media illustrations by George McClements help clarify the different possible meanings of the same word. The whole thing sneaks in some light educational material about underwater animals and a page of Silly Sea Facts is included at the back.

JenJ. | Mar 31, 2013 | This story is clearly fantasy and it is a good example of it. The main characters are an otter, a porcupine, and an owl. Having talking animals immediately makes the story fantasy. The book is very believable though since these characters act just like humans. It is as if it is realistic fiction with animals as the main characters. In the story the characters have a pajama party, make cookies, and watch scary movies. It is an easy book to relate to and it is written in a way that I could believe these animals really being like this.
The protagonist in this story is definitely the porcupine. He is the dominant character driving the action. He plans the party and brings them all together. He problem solves when there are fights about bedtime or being scared to go to the bathroom. He is definitely the round character too. he shows loneliness, excitement, impatience, anxiety, fear, compassion, and peacefulness all in one story.
