To quote the blurb on the back of the book Sir Paul Hasluck was 'a major figure in postwar Australian Politics'. He entered parliament in 1949 serving as a Minister in successive liberal governments, later serving as Governor General of Australia from 1969-1974. This book is a collection of pen portraits written by Sir Paul over the course of his career, and it was his intention that they not be published until all concerned were safely long dead. It contains some incisive, sometimes complimentary and at other times brutal assessments of Australian political figures of the 20th century, some well known, others now largely forgotten.

This book was published 4 years after Sir Paul's death, with an introduction by his son and some brief explanatory material before each portrait. Probably only of interest to those with an enthusiasm for Australian Political History.
