What a story! I learned about Juliane's story while reading The Radioactive Boy Scout last month.

About 40% of the book is the buildup to the airplane crash. Then she talks about her life after the event. I felt that everything she included was relevant. I enjoyed learning about the jungle and her parents' research, and the ways in which she carried it forward.

I am so happy to have finally track down a copy of this book. It was published in 2011 and on December 24th, 2021 it will mark the 50th anniversary of the plane crash in which Juliane Koepcke was the sole survivor in the Peruvian rain forest. Tragically, she lost her mother who was also on that flight. She then had to try to find someone to help her as she was all alone in the dense forest with a lot of injuries. She has since over the years championed the work her parents started and gone back many times for her own research and preservation of the research station her parents started. It is a truly remarkable story of a young woman, this catastrophic event, and how much good she has done since that fateful day!
So much i did not know about the Peruvian rain forest including all the interesting animals, the people and their ways of life. Remarkable story!!

Ongelofelijk verhaal van een jonge vrouw die als enige een vliegtuigongeluk heeft overleeft en daarna weer haar leven oppakt om een deel van het regenwoud te redden waarin ze is opgegroeid.
