The fourth star is because it's important for us to learn about pioneers in science-related fields, not just about celebrities. And female pioneers, too. This is still awfully simple, though; I want more. There is back matter, but that's still not enough. And the pictures, well, they're actually *too* pretty, esp. of the filth, the lack of windows, etc., that her patients suffered with.

The ending is too abrupt and there is no back matter. For more of what we picked up the book for, we need to go elsewhere. A good place to start is here: https://www.energy.gov/articles/war-currents-ac-vs-dc-power#:~:text=Today our electricity is still,to higher and lower voltages.

I am so disappointed. The story is almost all embellishment, even lies. See this article from the museum that owns it: https://www.artic.edu/articles/781/american-gothic-the-top-five-faqs. There's no explanation of why American Gothic has become so famous (much less what it's supposed to mean). Nothing about any other works by Wood. And there wasn't a Tillie, and when Wood came back to America he did not go back to the farm. A few of the pictures are lovely, hence the second star.… (more)

Too fictionalized. And the challenges the migrants faced would not go away with 20,000 lbs of trucked food. Migrant workers still struggle for fair conditions, and for schooling for their children. One thing I did not know is that the mother was apparently a member of the Cherokee Nation.
