I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE Unlimited download. What woman doesn’t know the words to I Am Woman by Helen Reddy: I am woman, hear me roar In numbers too big to ignore And I know too much to go back an' pretend 'Cause I've heard it all before And I've been down there on the floor No one's ever gonna keep me down again Oh yes, I am wise But it's wisdom born of pain Yes, I've paid the price But look how much I gained If I have to, I can do anything I am strong (Strong) I am invincible (Invincible) I am woman
True as these words might be, there are times when circumstances can render this to be somewhat impossible, as is the case with the protagonist of this story, Joanne Harris. Joanne Harris, is a woman who has lived in fear with an abusive husband, wondering when the next beating would come. Luckily Joanne finally reached a point when she no longer could bare the abuse, got up enough courage to flee her situation and goes into hiding in another town, while at the same time filing for divorce.
Starting her life anew, Joyce finds herself sharing an apartment [flat] with two other women, enjoying life to its fullest, and getting a job at a hair salon. But before she could venture out further in her new abuse free life, a new man enters her life, David Winston. However, all is not roses, for Joanne, for this guy has a weakness for other women.
Joanne’s life is becoming a roller coaster, and needing to gain some control over it and readers of this book are taken on her ride. Joanne’s steadfast determination eventually leads her in becoming the kind of woman epitomized by Helen Reddy’s; I am woman, and I’m not going to take this kind of treatment anymore.
For having given her women readers, a story fraught with self-determination, I’ve given Ms.Lanian 5 STARS.… (more)
