Good plot - action and romance

I love Lincoln's old-aged characters, their fortitude and their generosity. This story lacks that richness, as it focuses on some young people. We get an occasional peek at my favorites, like Theoph, the hired hand; but not nearly enough.

The story wouldn't even be write-worthy if not for the typical romance device of character reticence.

That said, it's still worth a visit, and catching a few good phrases.

A grand book about a spinster in Wapotomac on Cape Cod who is financially embarassed by a bad stock market decision and has to get a job. Her ne'er-do-well brother comes back to town and cons everyone for a while, but it all comes right in the end. Joseph Lincoln books always have happy endings where the people wind up falling in love.

1911. Two fellows who've been unlucky in love run a lighthouse together, when some unwelcome females come to stay nearby and melt their frozen hearts eventually.
