The author's great-grandfather invented a mask for medical personnel during an epidemic in China in 1910, different from what was used in Europe where he studied. The epidemic ended in four months and Wu Lien-Te's achievement was celebrated worldwide by doctors and scientists. His innovation continued with the 1918 flu epidemic and of course covid-19.
