Well-researched, but sometimes it seemed more of a history of Christmas with tenuous connections to Detroit history (although that was less true in later chapters.) I enjoyed the personal testimonies from Detroiters, as well as the letters to Santa Claus.
There were a few typos too. For example, on page 112: "...handing out Tiger's T-shirts, Lion's and Redwings hats or Piston tote bags." These sports teams are the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons- they should be spelled properly and with correct apostrophes. I'm nitpicking, but this didn't detract from my overall opinion.
I think this was an interesting book, but it could have used a bit more focus on Detroit or perhaps a different title.… (more)
