Okay so I guessed who was murdering the contestants of the game when the second one was pushed out of the window, which kind of spoiled the rest of the novel. I wonder if young adults will be cluey enough to pick up on what is happening when they read this. The plot is thus: In the not too distant future 5 teenagers who are playing VR games chance upon a door in their games that leads them to THE GAME. This has been promoted with the tag line everywhere "You'll know, by the snow". It is basically a Willy Wonka style golden ticket to a murder mystery in an old snow-bound mansion that the players must solve to escape the game. You can't leave until someone solves the murder of Orson Coleman found face down in a fountain in the foyer of his mansion. The winner can have millions in prize money. Veronica wants to win to get money to help her dying brother get special medical care, Aaron is rich and doesn't actually want to play, Charlie and Yasmin think its the coolest thing ever and have their own agendas and then there is Nate, skulking about in the background not being a team player- what is he hiding? The game starts off well enough with a Game Guide called Angel explaining they have to find the clues before the snow reaches the top of each storey's windows but then Veronica starts seeing her long dead sister Em in the game -which could be her brain misfiring in the VR world except that Aaron sees her too. And suddenly one of the players ends up dead....this wasn't in the game script!… (more)
