Monica Maristain admits that a full biography of Roberto Bolano will have to wait until someone with access to notebooks, correspondence, etc., but this book is a good first approximation, compiling excerpts from interviews with Bolano, as well as with family members, friends and colleagues, many of which are not easily available in English.

The book was also useful to me as a resource for many contemporary Spanish-language writers whom I did not previously know about.
