This book was something different than expected. Lots of blood, heathen practice and not fantasy like I'm used too. Altough the book was interesting enough to read further, I found it sometimes tiring to read. The mention of their God made it sometimes hard to read. The story was sometimes to long and extensive. But I do want to know how it ends, so I'm definately going for part 2.

I liked this book less than part 2, but in a way it was also a nice conclusion to the series. I liked the way the storylines came together, although I had expected that Hekat and Dimmi would have been more "present" than they were. I also would have liked it if there had been more story to the changes Zandakar and the toymaker had made to Mijak. But all in all it was a nice book to read and a very appropiate ending to the series.

This book was much more entertaining than the first in the series. I loved the kingdom of Ethrea, I liked to read about Rhian and her struggles to become the first queen. I also liked Zandakar a lot better now than in the previous book. I'm curious to part 3 and see how the world of Hekat and Rhian will clash and what the outcome will be.

The main character is a bit of a prick, and it took me a good 200 pages to like him at all. There's minimal action, ie: one combat scene and no one even dies. I really shouldn't have liked this book, but I did. Enough to finish it without even starting another book (a rare occurrence) and to pick up the sequel.
