Oh look, that shift to the status quo that dorks thought was controversial is, in fact, executed with excellent flair and fits into the series' themes like clockwork. I read the spoiler as to this Thor's identity, and enjoyed picking up on the little hints (it's not revealed in this trade).

So high-concept that it can get too clever for its own good and lap itself before the story's even ready for itself, but still more exciting and original than most X-books. A Scottish telepath whose multiple personalities put him one self-affirmation away from transcendent mysticism? Grant Morrison, eat your heart out!

I finished this graphic novel a few days after I started it, but never bothered to update my review until now.

Thor has lost his ability to pick up the hammer Mjolnir, which gives him his power, but for some reason a mysterious female figure has become worthy of its gifts instead. They fight some frost giants, etc., as Thor adjusts to this difficulty for his ego.

This story was entertaining and I appreciated the dynamics of Thor coming to accept that a woman (gasp) could be chosen by Mjolnir.

I read up more on the character behind the female Thor, whose identity is not revealed in this volume, and her power became even more poignant.

Sometimes female superhero characters can veer too far into being an all-powerful Mary Sue, but I felt this character had some good depth to her (though she was pretty freaking powerful!)

It didn't really hook me well enough to want to check out the rest of the series from the library, but it did satisfy my curiosity about the female Thor character.

Since I was pregnant starting in the fall and had nicknamed the baby Thor before knowing whether it was male or female, it also satisfied me to see that, as I learned my baby was female, the female Thor turned out to be really cool.
