- Short biography
- I'm an art historian, curator, and lawyer who found my home in museum curatorial work of global modern and contemporary art with a firm belief in the utmost importance of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. At Tate, as a senior curator of international art, I lead to strategize the development of Tate's collection of international photography through the acquisitions for which I fundraise in a range of USD200K to 250K annually. I provide strategic directions and curatorial content for the Tate Photography Acquisitions Committee. I develop the strategy for representing photography in Tate Modern programs, exhibitions, and displays. Before coming to Tate, I led the department of photography and new media at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, working on acquisitions of work by artists with diverse backgrounds to transform the museum's rich photography collection. From 2008 to 2016, I worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and curated groundbreaking exhibitions, including For a New World to Come: Experiments in Japanese Art and Photography, 1968 - 1979. Also, I led to acquiring more than 700 photographs, including the gift of 300 prints by Yasuhiro Ishimoto that I secured, the largest gift of photography for the museum in its institutional history. Before the museum career, I worked for seven years as a corporate lawyer in the areas of investment funds, securities offerings, trademark registration, and not-for-profit management in New York and Tokyo. I obtained a Ph.D. in the history of art from Cornell University and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
