I've never understood manga. This was a weird story about a deaf girl trying to fit in at her new school and EVERYONE was so MEAN! I only read this for the 2016 YALSA Hub Challenge. It's going to be a challenge to read #2 & #3.

Slightly confusing, but promising

After March escaped the sacrifice in the previous volume, the people responsible for the ritual have taken her, her sister, and that mysterious boy named Fushi to their village. And these people are vicious. They think that Fushi’s powers can be useful, and test him in gruesome ways. The girls and Fushi manage to escape, and yet this particular story also ends in heartbreak.

Fushi finds another travelling companion… an old woman who teaches him to write and to speak a little. This is a nice development!

Then a mysterious magical enemy appears out of nowhere, Fushi has to fight it. Then Fushi’s maker also appears out of nowhere, and it seems there is a mission. The action scenes were confusing, and I spent a few panels saying “Eeeeh???”

This was interesting enough for me to want to read the next volume. Also, I think I can live with the art style now.

3.5 stars (with volume 1 being 3.0) which is nice and promising!

Not only a deserved five-star review, but apparently a load-bearing one, as well.
