A very well told story. I borrowed this from an elementary school child and found the story captivating. It helped me learn more about the history of WWII and a story of perseverance.

I've heard that the true test of a mountaineer isn't Everest - it's K2. After reading this book, I finally understand why that is (although I will likely never understand why people would risk their lives to stand at the top of a mountain... That's an adrenaline rush I personally do not need.

Olson does a good job of sharing the facts while still paying close attention to the human emotions behind the constant and varying struggles. I found myself moved to tears, and I'm also driven to read more books about other mountaineering attempts - failed or otherwise.… (more)
