Although I don't think this is a perfect book about this topic, I do think the author did a great job of making it sweet to overwhelming and slipping into shocking and horrifying.
And it has help info at the end, just like I think every book about tough topics should have (and gets an extra star just for that).

This book in a word-- Meh. I've been wanting to read this since it came out & it was supremely disappointing. I usually love books that show the dark side of love, & I think it's important for teens to know what controlling/abusive behavior looks like. But the writing was... not great. The dialogue made me cringe-- so much teen talk!! And then there was a romance to get over the bad romance, which is my ultimate NO of all NO's.

I agree with the reviews that this book addresses an important subject (teenage girls being manipulated sexually, emotionally and mentally by their boyfriends) but I think the treatment of the subject is too mature for some high school libraries. For a public library, I would definitely recommend the purchase. The characters are well drawn and realistic and is the plot.

As an adult I found this book extremely frustrating. Zephyr's behaviour was predictable as she fell for the charming Alex, and most of the time all I wanted to do was shake her until she realised how manipulative Alex actually was and how dangerous it was to enter into a relationship with him. However, working with teenage girls on a daily basis, I know how easily this can happen - a cute guy, the need to feel loved and bam there's a connection and it 'must be love.'

The author has shown how easy it is for a girl to fall for a smooth-talking boy, and how difficult it is for that girl to see the dangers as she is blinded by her heightened emotions. Therefore, "The Girl Who Fell" has an important story to tell and should be read by all teenage girls.… (more)
