Something's weird about the publication dates, but I'm not going to fret about it, only say that this feels very old-fashioned. I'd like to read the first, but since other reviewers say the plot of the two is the same, I won't bother ordering it. This is a charming Leveled Reader, and refreshingly different from most of them, because most are friendship stories. The word choice, sentence length, etc. are formulated for beginning readers, but still engaging, not lame. And the fantasy world is imaginative and funny. I do recommend them if your 5-6 yo is having trouble moving on to regular books.… (more)

I enjoyed the archived copy on openlibrary.org

Ok currently reading, loving the art (longtime fan of [a:Robert Lopshire|84719|Robert Lopshire|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. But it's a fallacy that birds can't smell!

So, anyway, Max travels by umbrella. The King says, "... a great way to travel!"

Max says, "It got me here." Love that deadpan laconicism.
