This is way outside the norm for me to read. It was creepy at times and I don’t do creepy so well. But it was worth hanging in there. I loved the morally gray characters and that everyone can find their place in the world especially the “weirdo’s”. I will read more by RuNyx.
DNF @ 30ish% I can see this being an intro to dark romance which is completely fine, everyone starts somewhere. That doesn’t affect my rating however. Writing just feels a bit juvenile to me, focusing too much time on what the character wears everyday down to her earrings combined with constant clashing characteristics of a hermit girl living outside of society. Repetitive wordage is consistently throughout what I read and everything just feels loose in a very promising world. And that’s what made me put down the book; the author built this incredible setup and filled it with awkward dialogue and characters that I just didn’t like. This book I can see appealing to others but it just wasn’t for me. I’d love to see what they create later on in their writing journey but sadly, this just didn’t do it for me.… (more)
This book started on such a high for me! I was in love with the plot, loving the setting, and so intrigued by the characters. Halfway through the book, I was already declaring this as a potential five star!
Vad had me so intrigued. You want to talk about dark and mysterious, this is it! I also really liked to see how Cor progressed over the story. Learning about her upbringing and what she has gone through to where she is was fantastic. Also, the tasteful way that mental illness was discussed in this book was very well done.
But this plot twist!!! What!?!? Did not see that coming! The way that snuck up on us! Brilliant!
So overall, I clearly had a good time and enjoyed this book. The reason I deducted a star was because I felt as though the ending was rushed and I was left with far too many questions. If this were to be made into a series, I could understand having these questions, but from my understanding, this is meant to be a standalone.
Still a fun time, especially heading into spooky season!… (more)
I could’ve finished this book in one solid night if I wasn’t forced to stop and sleep because I had work the next day. This book gives off the Dracula, Wednesday, and Harry Potter vibe. Vad was dark and mysterious as Dracula was and Corvina was a mixture of a witch and Wednesday (Jenna Ortega). The setting was set in a university castle in the mountains above a small town which gives off a mixture of Dracula and Harry Potter. There were murders, family secrets, disappearances, forbidden romance, and mental illness included in this. On the account of all that and because it was a very fun read I gave it 4.5 stars but because there were plenty of questions that were unanswered I took off half a star and gave it 4 stars. I don’t know if the author left the questions unanswered intentionally because she plans to write it off as a series, but I could see this story having a part 2 and I hope she does because I would like to know the answers to all the mysteries that were left hanging.… (more)
