Peter Silvester

This is a well-researched and valuable book, especially if this sort of music appeals to you (it certainly does to me). Silvester is at his best describing the lives and practice of the major figures in boogie-woogie/blues piano ... occasionally the 'history' of the style is a bit disjointed because records are sparse, and it sort of falls apart into a list of names and dates. But if you are curious about Meade "Lux" Lewis, Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson and Jimmy Yancey, this is a fine place to start.… (more)
