So many things happen in this issue. I thought Stan Lee wrote busy issues, but Roy Thomas crams in twice as many goings-on. They're interesting ideas, but unfortunately there's too much. Nothing is allowed to feel big or impactful because everything is supposed to be big and impactful--there's not breathing room or space to take in what's happening. Also, Thomas isn't great with follow-through or consequences for his dramatic moments, so things happen and then we immediately move on. The artist, Barry Smith, often has confusing panel layouts and wonky anatomy in a way that really takes you out of the story you're reading, which just makes Thomas's weak points all the more noticeable.… (more)
