Good documentation of social housing in Amsterdam in the period 1909 - 1942, with plans of almost all the living quaters built in this period. The book tries to give 'an honest view' of the rationalistic and idealistic housing policy and the design dilemma's. It is a clear illustration that the so-called 'Triumph of the architecture of the Amsterdam School ' was not as total and not as widespread as (international) architectural history up till now wants us to believe.
