I really did not like this book. The therapist was highly unethical and the author was whiny at best.

As someone who is now past a year of one-on-one therapy, I can sympathize with how solely scary it would be to share everything with a group. While I do relate a lot to the author’s journey, I don’t particularly love their attitudes at times. Some people go into therapy expecting change immediately, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s hard work, and I think they ultimately got that.

Parts of this were admittedly hard to read because of Christie’s vulnerability. It is so good and made me newly grateful for my female friendships, especially those I have had a while. A great memoir!

I am grateful to the author for sharing her personal journey, but I was definitely left questioning the ethics of the doctor's approach, and the boundaries seemed very unprofessional. A relatively compelling read, however.
