This story follows a girl who grew up in the library had explored its every nook and cranny. She and a friend try to solve the mystery of if the library is haunted. I think this is a great book for this preteen/intermediate or middle level as it is 222 pages long but introduces some excitement with mystery and haunting ideas. I would enjoy reading through this whole book myself and having it as an addition to my classroom library.
Another heartwarming entry in the NYPL series. This one gets into the main mystery faster than the first one did. This one also made me cry. Not ugly cry like most of Rick Riordan's books, but I had to get a tissue and dab me eyes for a chapter or so. This book builds on the friendship theme of the first book and also adds a dash of doing the wrong thing for the right reason.
This middle grade mystery was super cute. I loved the chapter titles with the Dewey Decimal numbers. I loved that it made me curious enough to look up more about the real people that the characters are based on. It is ultimately a story about the power of books and friendship, and how those two things bring people together.

At first, I wasn't sure how the title was going to relate to the book as Jack is alive but the author did a good job tying the two together by having Jack relate everything he experiences to the five stages of decomposition.
I would recommend this book, Jack does a great job of working through his issues and sharing his feelings by the end of the book.… (more)
