Arguably the best book ever written on the play of the cards, certainly the most complete I have seen. It starts with the bare basics and slowly takes you all the way to advanced techniques. While a bit dated and definitely a slow read, it is well worth putting in the effort.

My husband's aunt gave me this book. I was just learning to play bridge and wasn't doing very well at it. My son was taking tennis lessons at a court too far away for me to leave, so I took this book with me. It has little about bidding, there are tons of books and methods, this one is how to play the hand, whether you've won the contract or not. There are countless examples of the right move and the incorrect one and why it is incorrect.
As the weeks went on, I began to see the moves to be made. When my son's lessons were finished, six weeks, I was actually enjoying playing bridge. My bridge friends were pleasantly surprised and I began to move up the levels, until I finally took on the job of teaching three elderly ladies the basics of bridge, with emphasis on the play of the hand. Some of the best afternoons of my life were spent with these dear ladies and I think of them every time I see this book on my shelf.… (more)
