The Nordic Council's Literature Prize is awarded for a work of imaginative literature written in one of the Nordic languages. This can be a novel, a play, a collection of poetry, short stories or show more essays, or other work. The work must meet high literary and artistic standards.
The intention of the prize is also to increase interest in the literature of neighbouring countries as well in Nordic cultural fellowship.

The Nordic Council's Literature Prize is awarded every year. The prize is worth 350,000 Danish kroner.

The literature prize cannot be applied for. The prize winner is selected by a Nordic adjudication committee. This usually takes place at the beginning of the year. The nominations for the next year's prize are made at the end of the year.
The prize is presented in conjunction with the Nordic Council’s Session which is held in the autumn. The 2008 prize wil be presented at the end of October at the Nordic Council's 60th Session in Helsinki. show less
